See the pic for my ghetto practice setup. 3 x old couch pillows on cymbal stands, 2 x practice pads mounted as toms, an old snare drum filled with t-shirts and stuffing, and an old roland kick pad with the electronics replaced with foam. The reason I've gone this route is that it allows me to beat the crap out of it without getting too loud, or jarring my hands and wrists. Awesome for stamina building and it feels like I'm moving around an actual kit when I practice.
